FileEdit is a very useful little utility you can use to change the default application the finder chooses when you ask to open a text document whose creator can't be found. The initial application is TeachText, but if you wish to change that, now you can.
Right now, FileEdit only lets you change the default application for text documents. I'll add the capablilty to change the PICT reader in version 1.1 soon to follow.
***FILEEDIT ONLY WORKS WITH SYSTEM (FINDER) 7.0 AND HIGHER!
HOW TO USE:
-----------
You will first need to use a different startup disk than the one that has the finder you wish to modify. The finder's resource file can't be opened when it is running. After you've started up with an alternate system, just follow these easy steps:
1) Double-click on FileEdit.
2) Choose the finder from the drive you wish to modify.
3) Choose the application that you wish to open files the finder
can't find creators for.
4) Say yes to the next alert if you are sure of the changes, and
that's it.
FileEdit is free. Feel free to pass as many copies as you like to others. Sale for profit is prohibited.
